Good-bye, LiveJournal. Hello, travistubbs.net 8.0.

I am done with cross-posting with LiveJournal. No… really. I mean it this time. For real. Come on. Don’t you believe me?

I had originally stared a journal on LiveJournal eons ago (I don’t remember what my first username). I was also able to locate a few old online friends from back in the day on LiveJournal (who write some very creative and humorous posts). Eventually, I wanted to do my own thing that restrictions on LiveJournal made tough. I eventually started moving my journal to my own domain and my own web server.

In order to keep my friends on LiveJournal up-to-date with my life (if any of them actually read it is another story) and to keep up with their’s, I had kept two separate journals: one here on my site and another on LiveJournal. This required that I use a hacked together script to post my journal on LiveJournal anytime I made an update. Sadly, this didn’t work with newer versions of the blogging software I used.

It was time to make a decision. I’m permanently making the move over to my own web site. Why? Well, not just because of the reason stated above, but for greater flexability and freedom to do whatever I want. Thankfully, I don’t have to leave my LiveJournal friends completely.

Thanks to OpenID, an “open and decentralized identity system”, I am still able to read my friends’ journals on LiveJournal. And, best of all, those on LiveJournal can comment on my journal with ease using their LiveJournal web address (username.livejournal.com). In fact, anyone with an OpenID will be able to comment on my blog. Those without OpenID will still be able to comment, but those comments are being moderated.

In a later post, I will talk about why having your own personal web site on your own server is enjoyable. Until then, good-bye, LiveJournal.
